We have all had headaches at some point. A little paracetamol quickly makes it go away. But... have you ever heard of Cluster Headache? The official name is “Horton's Syndrome”, commonly called “suicide headache”.
Due to all the costs involved with many surgeries, the foundation Over Leven Met Clusterhoofdpijn (Surviving Cluster Headache) was established.
Would you like to support Angela so she can have surgery and thus have a more livable life?
What is Cluster Headache?
Such a headache attack is unbearable; patients describe it as feeling like someone is stabbing a knife in your eye and twisting it.
Oxygen, injections, and strong painkillers can only make your life somewhat bearable at that moment. And completely powerless, you can only do one thing: wait for the attack to pass... and that feels like an agonizingly long time with the most severe imaginable pain in your head continuously. Such an attack lasts from 20 minutes up to 3 hours.
28-year-old Angela van Echten has had this form of Cluster Headache since she was 17. She has a chronic form, with 6 to 8 attacks every day, day and night. A normal life is no longer possible; the daily attacks literally ruin her entire life.
There is something that could offer Angela relief, namely an operation in which an electrode is implanted in the skull, called Neurostimulation. It is a method to divert pain signals by means of electricity and thus reduce the pain of the attacks, as a cure is not possible. Only very specialized neurosurgeons in Düsseldorf are able to perform this operation.
To finance these operations, the foundation OverLeven met Clusterhoofdpijn was established.
Would you like to support Angela to give her a livable life again?
